Steph Curry is pound for pound the greatest player ever. Yes, this is a wild take, but I am taking it there. Yes, we all know Allen Iverson held that title down for the last 22 plus years or so, but the times are changing, and it is time that the narrative does as well. If you are not a believer than maybe some facts will refresh your brain from the selective amnesia that NBA fans sometimes suffer from.
Wardell is coming off his fourth championship in 7 years. One can argue that is a dynasty and he is the spearheaded leader of it. Not to mention he won the Finals MVP along with the title after passing Ray Allen’s 3-point record earlier in the season and winning the All-Star MVP in Cleveland. We are not going to ignore the fact that he averaged 26 points 6 rebounds and 5 assist in the 2015 finals but lost the award to his fellow teammate Andre Iguodala who only averaged 16 points 5 rebounds and 4 assist only because he guarded and “slowed down” Lebron who averaged 35 8 & 6. Basically, Steph was robbed and should have 2 finals MVPs instead of 1. Do I need to bring up the fact that he is a 2-time regular season MVP and won his second one unanimously? This man’s resume speaks for itself.
Now let’s get into the opinion-based part of the topic. Wardell is in almost every human’s opinion the greatest shooter God has ever created. Think about that for a second. And lets also be clear to understand that there are probably greater players that never entered the NBA for a plethora of reasons like eligibility and mortality, but for this argument’s sake we are basing it off the NBA players alone. But to be the greatest shooter ever is a milestone that he reached undoubtedly. Before him people made a case weather it was Ray Allen or Reggie Miller. In my humble opinion I believe Ray was a slightly better shooter than Reggie only because Reggie took more difficult 3s off the dribble while ray was more a catch and shoot type of shooter. Looking at Steph’s style of shooting is a part of the reason why he is by far the greatest shooter ever. He not only can run off screens and catch and shoot just as good as Ray Allen, but he also has the, in NBA 2K terms, a purple difficult shot badge and limitless spot up shot and can shoot off the dribble from pretty much anywhere across halfcourt. As a fellow Clevelander I witness him in 2022 hit one of the greatest shots I ever seen in my life to date. He pump-faked and freed up Trae Young, a prodigy of Steph, and shot a 3 just slightly in front of the Logo. He shoots the ball and before the ball started coming down from its peak he turned around and looked at Trae to watch his face watch the ball go in nothing but net. Steph watched Trae stare at the shot as it fell in then he made a disgusted face that confirm to Steph it went in. The fact he did that in my hometown after he already Won 3 chips against my Cavs was like everything coming full circle and all the rivalry hate I had for him was out the window and I was in awe.
Steph is the pound for pound Goat. I know this phrase is used in combat sports such as boxing, wrestling, and mixed martial arts but because basketball has 5 specific positions, I like to use this term for comparing players like Steph to his contemporaries like Lebron who has massive height and weight over him. It is time to put some “Respeck” on his name as CEO and Music Mogel Brian “Birdman” Williams said at the Power 105 Breakfast Club. There may never be another like him and he should be appreciated .
